Senior Dairy Cattle Stockperson Role Summary

The senior dairy cattle stockperson plays a pivotal role in the production team of a dairy farm, overseeing all aspects of milk production and management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate milking shed routines to ensure efficient milk production and quality standards are met.
  • Develop and implement reproductive programs, including artificial insemination and herd fertility management strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to conduct internal assessments during calving procedures to minimize stillbirths or injuries.
  • Manage pastures and crops for livestock production, develop feeding plans, and analyze produce to maintain quality standards.
  • Supervise animal health programs, handle sick animals, and maintain a healthy environment for livestock.
  • Oversee work routines and staff performance of less experienced employees.
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance procedures to ensure adherence to industry standards.
  • Operate milking plant and equipment safely, undertaking multiple functions, and reading instrument information.
  • Transport, handle, and store chemicals; prepare and apply chemicals as required.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions and perform maintenance works to prevent downtime.
Requirements:
  • AQF Certificate III in Agriculture/Dairy Production (or higher equivalent).
  • Three years of recent and relevant work experience in a dairy farming or related environment.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Computer literacy and ability to operate software packages used in dairy farming.
  • Capacity to participate in enterprise/industry training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.
