About the Role

The Senior Wire Feed Welding Specialist is responsible for the safe delivery of inspections, maintenance, and renewals tasks through effective self-performance and strong accountable leadership of their team and collaboration with Metro Trains management. This role will involve the assessment, planning, and delivery of rail and crossing build-up activities.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead corrective, routine, and preventative maintenance activities with a focus on wire feed welded repairs of track assets.
  • When required, lead the team and coach and develop staff to build wire feed welding capability of the Skilled Operatives and Works Assistants.
  • Develop, manage delivery, and review progress against plans to ensure they are on schedule and take effective remedial action as required.
  • Complete all necessary reports, material returns, timesheets, requisitions, and claim forms.
  • Personally lead daily pre-work and post-work meetings.
  • Manage the procurement of consumables in accordance with budget.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with the appropriate:
    • Occupational Health and Safety Standards.
    • Regulations.
    • Metro Trains Standards, Guidelines, Policies, and Procedures.
    • Track SWMS.
    • WGS Brief.
    • TFPC RSHWA.

Requirements

  • Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (Boilermaker qualification) - mandatory.
  • Experience in Routine Gas Metal Arc Welding - mandatory.
  • Experience in Wire Feed Welding procedures.
  • Aluminothermic welding process.
  • 5 years track work experience.
