Job Description

The Support Advocate plays a pivotal role in assisting National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants in interpreting their NDIS plan, facilitating the implementation of supports and empowering individuals to manage their own support networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with NDIS participants to implement their plan and enhance their capacity to self-direct their support requirements.
  • Effectively communicate and maintain relationships with the NDIS Agency and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Action referrals in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Support NDIS participants in assessing and selecting preferred options or providers, negotiating services to be provided and their prices, developing service agreements and creating service bookings with preferred providers.
  • Determine the need for assessments required to determine the nature and type of funding required.
  • Budgeting and financial management to ensure effective use of allocated funds.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to adapt communication style to meet diverse needs.
  • Able to resolve conflicts effectively.
  • High level of numeracy and literacy.
  • Strong administrative skills, including time management and coordination of tasks.
  • Excellent computer literacy and proficiency in using systems and technology.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to build and maintain strong community connections and relationships with service providers, individuals, and/or families/carers.
  • Understanding of the NDIS Price Guide and flexibility within budgets, NDIS legislation and rules, and the role of the mainstream service system.
