Austin Health is a major provider of tertiary health services, education and research across three campuses in the northeast of Melbourne.

The North Eastern Public Health Unit (NEPHU) is one of nine public health units in Victoria, working in partnership with the Department of Health to deliver a comprehensive public health program. The NEPHU is led and coordinated by Austin Health and works in partnership with other health services to deliver public health services.

As a Public Health Officer, you will work to effectively prevent and respond to notifications and/or outbreaks of notifiable conditions in the North Eastern Public Health Unit catchment. This will involve conducting case interviews, contact follow up, site assessment, support and environmental management, liaison with healthcare professionals and stakeholders, and other public health duties.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in public health, including the prevention and control of communicable diseases
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to support development, improvement and strict adherence to established processes
  • Commitment to quality, best practice and safety
  • Sound technology literacy and ability to quickly learn and master online data reporting and record management tools
  • Ability to interact in an empathetic and sensitive manner with diverse populations
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to use sound judgment in responding to client issues and concerns
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
