Your Role

As a Project Procurement and Planning Lead, you will be instrumental in managing the planning and procurement functions for our projects in Newcastle. Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager – NSW Projects, you will lead a talented team, oversee production timelines, and ensure the prompt delivery of materials for our locomotive, wagon, and bogie manufacturing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective leadership, mentor, and motivate a committed team, promoting a positive and collaborative workplace culture.
  • Align the goals of the Planning and Procurement teams with project delivery from UGL's Newcastle operations, supporting the Production and Warehouse teams as internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee the creation and upkeep of the production schedule for UGL NSW Projects, ensuring it is optimized for effective delivery by the production team.
  • Manage the Procurement team to accurately forecast material needs in accordance with the production schedule. Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials to projects.
  • Administer team budgets and project-related costs, including developing demand and capacity plans.
  • Support new tender sourcing initiatives for UGL's Manufacturing and Maintenance sector.
  • Manage key supplier relationships and negotiate commercial terms to secure favorable pricing and delivery conditions.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve process efficiency and reduce costs in procurement and planning to foster success and innovation.
  • Prepare and present performance reports, offering insights and identifying areas for enhancement.

About You

You are a seasoned leader in Procurement Planning or Supply Chain management, with experience in rail, automotive, military, defense, avionics, or other safety-critical sectors. You excel in cultivating positive team dynamics and possess strong communication, negotiation, and leadership capabilities.

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience as a People Leader, preferably in Procurement Planning or Supply Chain.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of production planning, purchasing, and quality assurance.
  • Proficiency in ERP or MRP systems, including SAP.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace.
