Job description - Greenhouse Technician

Cultivating Plants
  • Propagate, plant, and transplant seedlings and mature plants in a greenhouse environment.
  • Maintain the health of plants using appropriate techniques and ensure optimal growing conditions.
  • Water, fertilise, and manage pest control for all plant stock to promote healthy growth and prevent disease.
Nursery Operations
  • Monitor and manage greenhouse environments, including temperature, humidity, and light levels to create ideal growing conditions.
  • Operate and maintain irrigation systems to provide plants with the necessary water and nutrients.
  • Prepare plants for sale or distribution by packaging and labelling them appropriately.
Inventory Management
  • Maintain accurate records of plant stock, growth cycles, and health issues to inform decision-making and improve inventory management.
  • Inspect incoming stock and materials for quality assurance and identify areas for improvement.
Health and Safety
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards in the nursery and report any hazards or near-misses to management.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and machinery in a safe and operational condition to prevent accidents and injuries.
Customer Service and Engagement
  • Provide advice to customers on plant care and maintenance to enhance their experience and build loyalty.
  • Assist in responding to customer inquiries or resolving concerns about nursery products in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements
  • AQF Certificate III, including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3) with relevant experience.
  • At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above.
