Job Title: Chief Legal Officer


We're seeking an exceptional legal professional to join our dynamic team. As a Chief Legal Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our business and navigating the evolving landscape of the medicinal cannabis industry.


About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially savvy and strategic thinker to drive growth, manage risk, and provide sound legal advice to our executive management team. You will be responsible for ensuring robust contract management, filings, and advising on claims and litigation.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Commercial Governance: Provide expert commercial and legal guidance to the executive leadership team, ensuring seamless operations and effective risk management.
  • Governance and Risk Management: Manage key business risks and governance or regulatory issues, reporting directly to the Board and Executive team.
  • Company Secretarial Function: Advise the Board on corporate governance regulations, duties under the Corporations Act, and other relevant matters.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Develop, implement, and monitor our internal compliance framework, ensuring accurate and timely reporting requirements are met.
  • Strategic Growth and M&A: Collaborate with the executive leadership team to drive growth, while balancing risk, and play a lead role in M&A or funding transactions.
  • Leadership and Influence: Demonstrate constructive behaviours in the senior leadership team and work collaboratively with staff at all levels of the business.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 years post-admission experience, preferably in-house for a large corporation or in a top-tier firm.
  • AICD Company Secretary qualification or equivalent experience performing this function for a high-growth business.
  • Experience in regulated industries, especially healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or cannabis, is highly desirable.
  • UK experience is also highly desirable.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commercially savvy and able to balance risk.
  • Strong influencer and creative thinker.
