Family Support Specialist

As a Family Support Specialist, you will work closely with carer families in their homes to provide regular practical and emotional support. This may involve assisting carers to attend appointments and access community groups and activities, as well as providing support after school and in the evening.

The role involves working alongside parents and family carers in the Pilbara region who have children in their care to improve safety and connectedness with local community services. You will be responsible for developing a thorough understanding of each child's needs and working closely with MacKillop case managers to deliver a high-quality service.

This is a Full-Time Fixed Term opportunity based in Karratha, WA within our Intensive Family Support/ Family Care Support Services Program. The position reports to the Coordinator Pilbara Services.

Key Selection Criteria:
  • A strong knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
  • An appropriate qualification and/or experience in the human services or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability in working as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of vulnerable children, young people and families, including an understanding of the impact of trauma, attachment and child development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively and with the capacity to liaise with other agencies and the community.
  • An understanding of the child protection and the out-of-home care service system.

  • An hourly rate of $37.35 to $40.05 as outlined in the SCHADS Award Level 3, dependent on qualification and experience.
