Life Without Barriers is seeking a Casual Residential Youth Worker in Darwin to support children and young people in our residential Out of Home Care program using a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach.

What you’ll do

As a Youth Worker (known at LWB as a “Therapeutic Residential Carer”) you will work within the CARE model to enhance the lives of young people in our care, incorporating a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach.

- Create a home-like environment tailored to the individual needs of each young person.

- Assist with daily living such as cooking, cleaning, and transporting young people to school, work and activities.

- Support each young person to engage with their community and family.

- Support educational goals and participation in extracurricular activities, in line with their interests and community connections.

- Act as an adult role model, build relationships and trust, and engage in purposeful activities with the young people.

- Support young people through tough and emotional times with practical, trauma-informed assistance.

- Utilise Therapeutic Crisis Intervention to help young people work through complex behaviours.

Please note: Our residential care service in Darwin runs a 24/7 roster with typical shifts being early days (7am – 3pm), days (9am – 5pm), evenings (3:00pm – 11:00pm), active nights (11:00pm – 7:00am) and sleepovers (5:00pm – 9:00am with an 8-hour sleep component).

The successful candidates must be able to complete a minimum of 48 hours (6 shifts) per fortnight and be flexible across a variety of shifts, with weekday and weekend availability.

Skills & Experience

- Either hold or be actively working towards a Cert IV in Child & Family Intervention or other relevant qualification.

- Experience working with children who are at risk or in the care of Child Protection/Families Services and/or experience with vulnerable people.

- Valid First Aid Certificate and CPR Certification. Must be obtained at your own cost.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, Working with Children Check and NT Child Protection Check.
