About the role
We are seeking an experienced Scientific Officer who is highly motivated to become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team who will be responsible for:
- Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
- Perform all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis, including specimen dissection
- Assist with Stock Control
- Maintain compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
- Maintain all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols
- Maintain current scientific knowledge
- Participate in routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities
- Contribute to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required
- Participate in training staff
- Liaise with internal and/or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
- Comply with and adhere to Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes
About you
To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:
- Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
- Minimum 4 years previous experience with competency in Morphology preferred
- Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the respective discipline
- Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
- Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
- Perform duties with a high degree of independence and infrequent supervision
- Outstanding commitment to quality and excellence
- Willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
- Positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member
- Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
- Ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment

- Additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseases may be required
