Henry Kendall High School is a coeducational comprehensive high school with a student enrolment of approximately 780 students including 48 students in the Special Education Centre and 65 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The school community is diverse with 49 cultural backgrounds. Henry Kendall High School is located near the CBD of Gosford City. The school's mission statement is: "Developing confident, responsible citizens who strive for excellence." We aim to develop the best in each student, and to draw out their talents and interests so that they are well placed to pursue their career options. Henry Kendall High School holds strong beliefs about the relationships we build with our parents and our community in order to provide a proactive school committed to ensuring opportunities and high standards. Henry Kendall High School is a coeducational comprehensive high school with a student enrolment of approximately 780 students including 48 students in the Special Education Centre and 65 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Henry Kendall High School provides a curriculum that is relevant, current and challenging incorporating Futures Learning principles, explicit teaching, and personalised pathways. A strong learning culture is an integral aspect of the school. Key features include excellence in the creative and performing arts, sporting programs, strong academic outcomes whilst equally catering for multiple student pathways, EAL/D programs, valued relationships with the Aboriginal Community and Cooinda AECG, the Special Education Centre, Vocational Education opportunities and a holistic focus on student wellbeing.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach secondary English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in EAL/D qualifications approved by the NSW Department of Education.
- Demonstrated ability to plan culturally appropriate engaging programs to meet the English language needs of students at a range of assessed learning phases using principles and practices of evidence based EAL/D pedagogy.
- Experience in EAL/D cross curriculum planning, assessing evidence and tracking growth of English language proficiency and guiding teachers in consistent judgement with the use of the ACARA EAL/D Learning Progression and the ESL scales.
- Well-developed personal, interpersonal and organisational skills that positively enhance the learning culture of the school.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
