Prairiewood High School is a co-educational, partially selective, comprehensive secondary school located in Wetherill Park in Sydney's South-West region on Dharug land. The school has a stable enrolment of approximately 1350. This includes 60 students each year in the selective stream and four Support Unit (Autism and IO) classes across Years 7 to 12. 87% of students have a Language Background Other Than English, and students represent 30 countries of origin. Approximately 50% of the student population requires English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) support, which has been steadily increasing. Currently, 25 students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background.
Selection CriteriaPrairiewood High School is inviting applications for a Classroom Teacher Position for English as an Additional Language/Dialect Teacher (EAL/D), commencing in 2025 and continuing in 2026.
The position will include Stage 4 to 6 classes. Please submit a two-page application that addresses the following criteria:
- Approval to teach students with English as an Additional Language/Dialect needs (secondary) or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in EAL/D qualifications approved by the NSW Department of Education.
- Strong organisational skills and the capacity to work collaboratively with classroom teachers to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate adjusted teaching programs and assessment for students with additional learning and support needs.
- Highly developed ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships skills with students, staff, parents and outside agencies, and contribute to faculty and whole school programs.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
A Relocation Support Payment of $5,000 up to $8,000 will be available for eligible applicants.
Special NotesIf applicable, engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the Teacher EAL/D qualifications as recognised by
the NSW Department of Education which must be completed within 12 months.
Applicants are to include details of their WWCC clearance number as part of this application.
Applicants seeking either permanent full time or permanent part time employment are encouraged to apply for this position. If the recommended applicant is seeking permanent part time employment (FTE from 0.1 to 0.9 inclusive), they will be offered an appointment at their desired FTE.
