Overview
Opportunity to lead and support the delivery of high-quality, recovery-focused care. Utilise your own living / lived experience to deliver high-quality recovery-oriented services to all service-users. Full Time, Fixed Term role | VIC Locals – Mt Alexander/Central Goldfields Location.
Mind Australia is one of the country’s leading community-managed specialist mental health service providers with a range of residential, mobile outreach, centre based and online services. We have been supporting people living with the day-to-day impacts of mental illness, as well as their families, friends and carers for over 45 years.
We provide practical and motivational support that helps people to develop the skills they need to move on, thrive and improve the quality of their lives. It’s an approach to mental health and wellbeing that looks at the whole person in the context of their daily life. Mind is committed to diversity and social inclusion.
About the role
The Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing services, otherwise known as “Locals”, act as a front door to the mental health service system and provides a continuum of care and support including clinical interventions, wellbeing supports, and therapeutic support through an integrated mental health and alcohol and other drug framework approach.
We are seeking a self-motivated and approachable Team Leader (Lived Expertise) for a Full Time, Fixed Term opportunity (38 hours per week) position championing the voice of lived experience, advocating for human rights and providing an alternative to traditional mental health responses through the practice of mutuality, based in Mount Alexander/Central Goldfields.
You will work with the team and support them to understand how to integrate their lived experience into their work, supporting service users by identifying how they would like to move towards what is possible in their lives and focusing on relational care.
Key responsibilities
- Utilise your lived expertise to promote an inclusive, affirming and destigmatising culture that values lived experience and the active inclusion of service users, carers, and families in the work we do.
- Work in a way that is informed by Mind’s Lived Experience Strategy, Peer Work Framework and Model of Peer Work to guide your work.
- Support the development of a consistent narrative on the value of Lived Experience to the service across quality, values and service outcomes.
- Lead delivery of services to people as defined in the Locals Service Model.
- Support, coach and mentor staff to think deeply, develop creative solutions and remain motivated in meeting people’s needs and preferences.
- Provide practice supervision/line management to staff who are providing direct support to service users.
- Positively influence and contribute to a service and team culture that focuses on relational practice, meeting people where they are at.
What you’ll bring
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/or Advanced training is required.
- Tertiary qualifications in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by Mind are also desirable but not required.
- Experience as a peer worker or holding a designated lived experience role.
- Proven experience in leadership and capability to coach, mentor and develop a team to achieve the provision of service that best supports the needs of the community.
- Experience in Community Services, AOD, Mental Health, Disability, Social Welfare, Housing, Healthcare or Government sectors is required.
Benefits
- Salary packaging up to $15,899 p.a. allows you to allocate a portion of your pre-tax income to cover living expenses (e.g. rent, mortgage, childcare, car leasing expenses etc.)
- Option to access Meal and Entertainment allowance up to $2,650 p.a. via Salary Packaging.
- Generous leave entitlements including 8 weeks paid parental leave, 17.5% annual leave loading, and Monthly Accumulated Day off (Full time employees).
- Access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), provided by Converge International, for you and your immediate family members.
- Fitness Passport - Access to our corporate health and fitness program, providing you and family with access to a wide choice of fitness facilities.
- Professional development through regular Practice Development sessions and coaching with your supervisor
