**About us**

The South East Public Health Unit (SEPHU) is a major component of a once in a generation reform of public health delivery in Victoria. The new system consists of three Melbourne metropolitan Public Health Units (North Eastern [NEPHU], Western [WPHU] and South East [SEPHU]), who are linked with the existing six Regional Public Health Units and the Department of Health (DH). SEPHU is led and coordinated by Monash Health and was established initially to strengthen the public health response to COVID-19 through end-to-end contact tracing and outbreak management, screening and vaccination. The unit enables the integration of care and public health functions, whilst enhancing the ability to rapidly respond to infection prevention issues, new cases and outbreaks within Monash Health and approximately 1.7 million people within local catchment areas. SEPHU’s public health functions are consistently reviewed and improved to meet the demands of our community.

**About the role**

The local public health units [LPHUs] are progressively taking on broader public health functions beyond COVID-19, working to strengthen relationships with health care providers and services within their respective catchments to deliver a comprehensive public health program. This role will have a strong focus on health protection.

The Team Leader is the first line of escalation of public health issues for the Public Health Officers (PHOs), conduct case and contact interviews and identify high risk or sensitive settings. They are key to the co-ordination of the PHO work processes.

The Team Leader is also involved in other general public health activities and are critical to ensuring completion of all public health actions in a timely manner. The Team Leader escalates public health issues to the Operations Lead or Medical team members. They are a part of the senior leadership team and work closely with Operations Leads, Medical and Epidemiology team members to ensure consistent practice across the unit.

The Team Leaders are responsible for adherence to communicable disease prevention and control policy when supervising and coordinating the public health officers.

Team Leaders work on a rotating roster with the potential for weekend and on call rostering. The incumbent will be required to work in any area at any or all campuses of Monash Health as and when required. Such a requirement may be a temporary arrangement, on an ad hoc basis or a permanent change.

**About you**
- ** A tertiary degree in health science, nursing, medicine or related public health fields such as Public Health, Environmental Health, Clinical or Population Research or Management**:

- Post graduate qualifications in public health, environmental science or public policy highly desirable
- Current Australian drivers’ licence
- Demonstrated specialised knowledge and skills in public health
- Normally at least 3 years’ experience
- Demonstrated well-developed oral and written communication skills
- Ability to engage in reflective practice to support specialist public healthcare delivery
- Demonstrated experience in contributing and responding to change ideas and supporting others through this process, using specialist knowledge
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe consumer-focused public healthcare, providing specialist knowledge or depth of experience
- Demonstrated initiative in leading quality improvement or research projects
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver specialist public health care professional development and education
- Demonstrated well-developed skill sets in organisation, time management, planning and priority setting
- Demonstrated innovative approaches to problem solving for individual consumers and/or service delivery using specialist skill or knowledge
- Proficient in Microsoft office and Microsoft 365 platforms
