THE ROLE

Housing Services Officers play a vital role in supporting the delivery of client-centered services to individuals and families who seek housing assistance or reside in public housing. Housing Services Officers are part of a network of community workers and organisations that share the responsibility for working with vulnerable people to promote and support their wellbeing. Based in offices across the state, the role undertakes a range of tasks relating to tenancy and property management and the provision of housing advice and assistance.

Housing Services Officers are fully competent across the assigned housing functions and apply well-developed skills in all areas. They may be required to be a local reference point in processes and procedures for less experienced staff and will work in an environment under general supervision.

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

- Assess client's needs and provide advice on housing options from a range of established policy, procedures and standards.

- Prepare routine cases with well established procedures and represent the Department at Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).

- Identify and apply early intervention strategies to sustain tenancies.

- Respond to family violence risk in accordance with MARAM guidelines.

- Use persuasive skills in dealing with clients and stakeholders on all housing matters.

- Determine eligibility for housing assistance and select appropriate options.

- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.

- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.

- Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.

- Exercise professional judgement and expertise when providing advice to resolve complex housing issues.

- Advocate and prepare more complex cases and represent the department at VCAT in cases where established precedents apply.

- Research and prepare briefs recommending local operational service delivery quality improvements
