ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join Cricket Australia on a fixed‑term contract until March 2027 and play a pivotal role in delivering high‑quality, timely legal advice across all areas of the organisation. This dynamic and varied role supports CA’s commercial, operational, and strategic objectives, ensuring legal compliance and risk mitigation while enabling innovation and growth across Australian Cricket.

Reporting to the Head of Legal – Commercial & Cricket Operations, you will be responsible for:

- Delivering strategic legal advice across CA, covering sponsorships, player contracts, ICC rules, commercial operations, and cricket programs.

- Negotiating and drafting key agreements, from sponsorships and procurement to player and licensing contracts.

- Leading legal process improvements, driving collaboration and practical compliance solutions.

- Managing regulatory matters, staying ahead of legislative changes and guiding CA’s responses.

- Providing commercially focused legal solutions, aligned with CA’s strategic goals and values.

You’ll work closely with the broader Legal & Business Affairs team, contributing to a collaborative, values‑driven culture. You’ll also manage external legal providers when required, ensuring cost‑effective and timely service delivery.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

As the successful Legal Counsel, you will be a commercially minded legal professional with at least 4 years’ post‑qualification experience, ideally gained in a law firm or in‑house. You bring:

- A Bachelor of Laws / Juris Doctor.

- Sharp legal instincts and the ability to simplify complex issues into clear, actionable advice.

- Strong stakeholder skills, with a collaborative, solutions‑focused approach.

- Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle competing priorities.

- Adaptability and resilience in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.

- Experience balancing legal risk with commercial outcomes, and mentoring others.

- Bonus points if you’ve worked in‑house, in sport or events, or have a passion for sports governance and regulation.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

Our employees at Cricket are gifted an additional week of leave at the end of the season As a CA employee, you will also have other benefits including:

- Tickets to Cricket for you to take your friends and family and experience Australia’s favourite game

- A flexible working environment, meaning we strike the balance of what you need and what works for the business (this isn’t limited to working remotely).

- Discounts from our partners such as ASICS and salary packaging options.
