Aveley Secondary College (SC) opened in 2018 and is a large secondary school catering to students in Years 7 to 12 in Perth’s Swan Valley. The College is recognised as a school of choice with high expectations and standards, a progressive approach and commitment to excellence. Our Education Support Program caters for over 70 students with moderate to severe disabilities. We provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for students, supported by a highly dedicated team of teachers and education assistants. In the Education Support Program, all students have individualised programs and planning to support their needs and pathways. The school’s moral purpose is success for every student, every day.

Our staff are supported through professional development and mentoring to build capacity. There is a strong foundation and leadership structure to support our Education Support team. Within the Education Support Building, there are specialised facilities, including a hydrotherapy pool, hoisting equipment, a purpose-built life skills room, sensory spaces and generously sized classrooms. Student artwork is displayed throughout the building, which is colourful and welcoming.

The Role

Aveley SC is seeking a passionate, committed, and knowledgeable Program Coordinator - Education Support who will work closely with the Executive team, Deputy Principal, existing Program Coordinator, staff, students, and the school community to support students and make a difference to the lives of young people with disability.

Ideally, we are looking for a highly motivated leader with a collaborative approach to school leadership to create an environment where students and staff excel. A candidate who has experience in supporting Education Support Teachers and Education Assistants to provide a safe learning environment and implement Positive Behaviour Support is highly desired. This includes overseeing literacy, numeracy, protective behaviours, life skills and Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN) programs and activities such as community access, hydrotherapy, work readiness, workplace learning, Person Centred Planning meetings and VET courses. Extensive experience with Disability Resourcing, Nationally Consistent Collection of Data, Writing and Implementation of student plans, use of COMPASS, liaising with families for case management of students with complex needs and the ability to manage challenging behaviours are highly desirable.
