Senior Project Manager

About the Role:

Robert Walters are working with a large scale bank based in Melbourne to source a new Senior Project Manager for a large scale Data Platform Transformation program. The ideal candidate will have strong data migration experience (10+ years), analytical capability, and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders at all levels to quickly build deep collaborative working relationships.

Job Description:

This piece of work is focusing on a large scale migration of data from on premise (Oracle) to the cloud (GCP) with a specific lens on risk and regulatory reporting (APRA Specific).

The critical business operations continue to be dependent upon the on-premise Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) ecosystem for data. This platform is unstable and unsustainable, with limited Business Continuity Management across critical processes, and presents an unacceptable level of operational risk for the organisation.

Enterprise demand for data integrity, accessibility, analytics and AI cannot be met through the current on-prem. It is now necessary to scale and accelerate the program to migrate all business processes and reporting off the current EDW ecosystem, with the following primary objectives:

1. Transition and optimise all business processes off the EDW and embed data management controls.
2. Remove all dependencies and decommission the EDW assets to reduce operational cost.
3. Improve efficiency by simplifying the data platform, optimising unit cost and speed to value.
4. Enable the business through trusted data assets, self-service, and integrated reporting, analytics and advanced AI capabilities.

Key Role Elements:

- Experience in managing data transformation program; strong understanding of Data Lake concepts (Ingestion to Serving).
- Understanding of data modelling techniques.
- Strong project governance via Jira, capacity planning, estimations etc.
- Experience in managing multiple parallel delivery stream of work.
- Exposure to AWS and GCP cloud, integrations, and data warehousing concepts.

This role’s primary purpose is to manage the ingestion of sources in the GCP Lakehouse.

1. Engaging and coordinating multiple service teams and service owners, along with vendors engaged to do the build.
2. Manage testing, release management and ensure that the changes are deployed into Production.
3. As this workload decreases over time, we will look to have this role support other areas of the program.
4. Any other elements as required to deliver business/program outcomes.

Core relationships:

Reporting to a Program Manager, this role is a key member of the Enterprise Delivery team and works closely with:

- Technology Leaders (Architects, Practice Leads, Service & Delivery Owners, Engineers / Testers).
- Program Managers, PMO Managers / Analysts, Project Managers, Business Analysts.
- Internal and External Delivery Partners including but not limited to Customer-facing teams, Organisational Change Management, Finance, Risk, Strategy and Procurement.
