Overview
Job Category: Community Services and Development
Richmind WA is opening a brand-new Step-Up Step-Down Service in Karratha in early 2026, and we’re looking for passionate Recovery Support Workers to join our team.
About the Role
It takes courage to lead change — and this is your chance.
Being a Recovery Support Worker at Richmind WA is more than just a job – it’s a calling. You’ll support people navigating mental distress to build independence, reconnect with their strengths, and take steps toward the life they want to live. This means helping with life skills, offering emotional support, and showing up as a consistent, compassionate presence. You’ll be part of a supportive team, working in our new Karratha service – helping people feel safe, seen, and heard.
What does a typical day look like?
- Sharing a cuppa and talking through the day’s recovery goals
- Helping someone practice budgeting, cooking, or transport planning
- Supporting a person in distress with empathy and calm
- Celebrating a small but powerful win (like attending a group activity)
- Logging notes, chatting with your team, or attending a learning session
- Supporting a resident’s family to understand how to walk the recovery journey with them
Responsibilities
What makes you a great fit?
You don’t need to be a mental health expert—you just need to care deeply about people and believe in their ability to grow and heal.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a Cert IV in Mental Health, Community Services, or similar - or experience in mental health
- Is emotionally intelligent, calm under pressure, and values teamwork
- Can support someone through a tough moment, not just a task
- Understands (or wants to learn) recovery-oriented practice
- Has a current driver’s licence and relevant checks (see below)
- Lived experience of recovery (as a consumer, carer or family member) is especially valued here.
You’ll need:
- Cert IV in a mental health or similar or previous experience
- National Police Clearance (under 6 months old)
- Working With Children Check
- First Aid & CPR (HLTAID011, HLTAID010, HLTAID009)
- Valid driver’s licence
There’s something to suit everyone—we’re offering part-time, full-time, and casual roles. Because this is a residential service, you’ll also have the chance to work weekends and overnight shifts.
Who are we?
At Richmind WA, we’ve been supporting people on their mental health journeys for over 50 years. We’re recovery-first, lived experience-led, and proudly Rainbow Tick accredited. We walk alongside people with compassion, courage, and belief in their potential. Our services are residential, outreach, and everything in between - person-centred, trauma-informed, and inclusive at the core.
Values
- Living and breathing recovery
- Being brave and exploring
- Listening deeply and learning
- Putting people first
- Being passionate about inclusion and belonging
We work with Elders and First Nations staff to ensure culturally safe supports and value people of every background, identity, and experience.
Benefits
- $1,000 annual travel allowance
- Five weeks of annual leave (with the option to buy more)
- Rent subsidy to make living in Karratha easier
- Up to $1,000 electricity allowance per annum
- Meaningful work, every single day
- Salary packaging up to $18,640 (boosts your take-home pay)
- Two bonus leave days—your birthday + wellbeing leave
- Training, mentoring, and access to LinkedIn Learning
- Free and confidential Employee Assistance Program
- Long service leave after 5 years
Other Opportunities
Other roles for the Karratha Step-Up Step-Down Service will be opening soon. If you’re interested, please email recruitment@rw.org.au to express your interest.
Our brand-new Karratha Step-Up Step-Down Service will open in early 2026. We’re seeking staff to join us from February 2026, so you’ll be part of shaping the service right from the beginning.
We have a variety of opportunities available—part-time, full-time, and casual positions. As this is a residential service, shifts will also include weekends and overnights.
Ready to apply? please submit your resume and a short cover letter outlining why you’re interested and what you’d bring to the role.
We assess applications as they’re received, so don’t wait - we’d love to hear from you.
