The Work Health and Safety (WHS) team is responsible for the overall strategic direction and delivery of WHS frameworks for Optus, its subsidiaries, and contractors. This is a critical role which will drive a consistent and robust approach to WHS management practice and performance across a number of Optus Business Units (BUs), to facilitate the health and wellbeing of our workers, and to ensure that Optus remains compliant with its WHS legislative obligations.

Your day in the life of a WHS Manager at Optus

1. Lead and/or participate in WHS related incident investigations.
2. Ensure WHS practices comply with Optus policies, standards, procedures, and as far as reasonably practicable fulfill all legislative obligations.
3. Coach, mentor and re-direct senior managers, managers and employees in expected WHS behaviours.
4. Consult and communicate with senior managers, managers, employees and the Optus extended workforce (e.g. contractors, franchisees, licensees etc.) on WHS matters that may impact on their health and safety.
5. Support projects and events to ensure WHS risks are managed and that liabilities and risk are identified and managed.
6. Monitor WHS performance of the assigned BU functions, providing timely and accurate reporting to all stakeholders, and advising on gaps, as required.

Your skills to pay the bills

1. Degree qualifications in OHS/Risk or a related area.
2. Extensive experience in WHS in complex and multi-site, multi-function business operations.
3. Proven experience working with quality certified systems (e.g. ISO, AS/NZ).
4. Demonstrated understanding of and management of construction related risks/hazards/controls.
