Full Time Opportunity • Health Translation Hub, Randwick, NSW • 3 Month Fixed Term Contract (Contract Ending 31 st January 2026) • Hybrid working environment (ideally 2 days per week in the office)
Pro-Rata Salary Range of $121k Base - $131k Base (dependent on experience, skills and capabilities)
Plus 12% Superannuation and access to Not-for-Profit Salary Packaging with a value of up to $15,900. (more information provided below).
Work on exciting projects that are making an impact on global health outcomes. We are looking for an experienced Media and Communications Manager to join our organisation on a fixed term contract basis.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Media and Communications Manager to lead the delivery of our Global Communications and Marketing Strategy within Australia.
This position will play a key role in promoting The George Institute’s work through strategic media engagement, marketing campaigns and brand initiatives. Our successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and executing earned media opportunities, managing external resources for content development and ensuring high-quality delivery of communications that support research visibility and stakeholder engagement.
Working closely with the global communications team and teams in Australia such as Research, Philanthropy, Impact and Engagement and the Australian Executive Leadership Team, the Manager will coordinate integrated communications efforts that reflect the Institute’s mission to improve global health.
This is a unique opportunity for a communications professional to contribute to local research and policy influence in a global organisation.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Deliver strategic communications in Australia aligned with the global strategy, including earned media coverage.
- Identify and share impactful stories that support priority areas.
- Create and manage media releases, web content, social media posts, and op-eds.
- Support digital and social media strategies in collaboration with internal teams.
- Build strong relationships with Australian media and manage media enquiries.
- Monitor media coverage and report on impact.
- Advise on reputational risks and manage external communication issues.
- Coordinate with global and local stakeholders to deliver proactive communications.
- Manage external suppliers for content creation and media support.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience / Our Successful Candidate
- 5+ years’ experience in a similar role
- Has existing media relationships and contacts, particularly in health
- Strong writing skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good organisational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritise conflicting deadlines
- Ability to engage effectively with staff at all levels of the organisation
- Ability to respond to media requests outside of normal business hours
- Strong MS Office skills and confidence working with digital platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube
- Previous experience in the health/not-for-profit environment will be considered advantageous
