We are seeking to establish a pool of Design and Technology (D&T) Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Aveley Secondary College (SC) opened in 2018 and has quickly established itself as a leading secondary school in Perth’s Swan Valley, catering for students from Years 7 to 12. Our Technologies learning area is a vibrant and innovative department, providing students with hands-on opportunities to develop practical industry skills and knowledge. The College’s Trade Training Centre has a strong vocational focus, particularly in building and construction, offering a highly competitive and successful pathway for students seeking industry-recognised experience and achievement.
Teaching and learning at the College is a strong focus across the College (with an Explicit Direct Instruction approach) supported by a rigorous behaviour curriculum and systems to support conditions for learning in the classroom. The staff are supported through extensive professional development and coaching in these key areas. Aveley SC's collaborative approach to pedagogy has been recognised as best practice through the Grattan Institute and teaching staff have been filmed by the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) as examples of best practice. A central feature of the college is strong teams with an extensive repertoire of curriculum resources. As alumni of the Fogarty EDvance program, the school has visitors from across the state and country visiting our classrooms to see our teachers in action. Our teachers are our best asset.
This position has a senior school focus on Materials Design and Technology – Woodwork and possibly Building and Construction courses in senior school. Although timetable may be flexible depending on suitable applicants. We are seeking teachers who will ideally support our trades centre to help inspire and prepare our students for trade pathways. Having a Training and Assessment Education Cert IV qualification would be desirable but not a requirement.
Suitable applicants will ideally be qualified or undertaking Learning Enrichment Achievement Program (LEAP) in design and technologies. We are seeking applicants who will ideally have the following attributes:
- Interpersonal skills and capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Capacity to build good relationships with all students
- Knowledge of the Design and Technologies curriculum
- Strong teaching and classroom management skills and relevant Occupation Health Safety (OHS) protocols to provide a safe learning environment
- Willingness to engage in our Explicit Direct Instruction model
- Engage in reflective practice, informed by classroom observations, student feedback surveys and close examination of student performance data
