Overview

Joining the friendly team at Kangaroo Island Health Service, you will be responsible for performing general facility maintenance associated with the interior and exterior of the health unit. Your duties may include rubbish collection, minor carpentry, painting, plumbing, mechanical and grounds maintenance. Selecting, establishing and maintaining simple gardens, you will install and maintain a wide range of watering systems and formulate, prepare and apply herbicides, pesticides, weedicides or speciality fertilisers. You may also perform advanced tractor operations requiring the set up and calibration of a broad range of implements to undertake more complex grounds functions. As part of your role, you will provide assistance and guidance to other employees, including on the job training.

Responsibilities

- Provide general facility maintenance to the interior and exterior of the health unit
- Rubbish collection and grounds maintenance
- Minor carpentry, painting, plumbing, mechanical tasks
- Maintain and install gardens and watering systems
- Formulate, prepare and apply herbicides, pesticides, weedicides or speciality fertilisers
- Perform advanced tractor operations with setup and calibration of implements for complex grounds tasks
- Provide assistance and guidance to other employees and on-the-job training

Qualifications and Experience

- Prior experience in building and grounds maintenance
- Practical experience with a wide range of hand and power tools
- Ability to work with minimum supervision using initiative and judgment
- Sound understanding of Occupational Health Safety & Welfare acts relevant to a maintenance role
- Willingness to work as a cooperative team member

Remuneration and Environment

Salary: WHA3 $29.11 - $29.41 per hour plus 25% casual loading - Casual

Location: Kangaroo Island Health Service

Requirements and Conditions

- Appointment subject to satisfactory Criminal History Check and appropriate immunisation requirements
- Check(s):
- DHS Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving unsupervised contact with vulnerable groups

Immunisation Risk for this position is Category A (Direct Contact with blood or body substances)

SA Health Services are required to implement vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
