Federal Government Agency seeking Rail Technical Manager to work on the development phase of an iconic project Your new company
This Authority is an independent corporate government entity governed by an independent board. Established in 2023, this Authority is overseeing the planning and development of a transformational rail network, connecting Australia's East Coast Cities. They are currently seeking an EL1 Rail Technical Manager to be based from the Canberra or Sydney office.
Your new role
As Rail Technical Manager, you will play a key role in coordinating engineering inputs, monitoring technical performance, and integrating deliverables across a complex, multidisciplinary project. You'll work closely with internal teams and external advisers to ensure technical outputs align with broader program objectives.



Support engineering tasks and monitor deliverables from technical advisers.


Review designs and engineering outputs for quality, consistency, and compliance.


Assist in contract administration and performance tracking.


Collaborate across planning, commercial, and environmental teams.


Liaise with stakeholders including regulators, government agencies, and delivery partners.


Contribute to innovation and technology assessments relevant to high-speed rail.


Coordinate engineering activities across planning, design, and delivery phases.


Identify and mitigate technical risks.


Lead and support team performance and cross-functional collaboration.


What you'll need to succeed
You are an experienced infrastructure professional with a proven track record of leading large-scale, complex projects within government or regulated environments. You bring strategic foresight, technical depth, and a collaborative leadership style that inspires high performance and drives results.



A bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, or systems); postgraduate qualifications in project or commercial management are desirable.


Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status.


Experience in major rail infrastructure projects ( $5 billion), including contract administration and milestone tracking.


Strong technical coordination skills across track, stations, rollingstock, and digital train control systems.


Familiarity with systems engineering, safety assurance, and risk management.


Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.


Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.


You must be an Australian Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain government Baseline Clearance
