The Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) is looking for dedicated, capable and forward-thinking people to join the Freight, Ports, Aviation and Reform (FPAR) directorateand lead the development, delivery and review of policies, strategies and projects across Western Australia’sfreight, port and aviation sectors.

Within DTMI, the Freight, Ports, Aviation and Reform (FPAR) directorate provides contemporary strategies, policies, and regulatory frameworks to deliver coordinated, resilient transport infrastructure and systems. We are a team of experienced and passionate policy makers, skilled at developing and influencing government policies, plans and strategies and driving strategic projects across the freight, ports, and aviation sectors to deliver Government’s aspirations for efficient, sustainable and resilient transport systems that meet the needs of our WA economy, our regions and our community.

Please note: These roles are focused on strategic policy and planning and are not operational roles that deal with managing or overseeing day-to-day transport operations. Previous experience in transport-related industries or government is not required.

About the FPAR Directorate

TheAviation Teamis focused on improving regional connectivity and liveability. We ensure regional air services and airports continue to meet the needs of Western Australians. Our recent successes include the introduction of theRegional Airfare Zone Cap and the ongoingRegional Airports Development Scheme .

TheFreight Teamis responsible for developing and implementing evidence-based policy to ensure WA has efficient multi-modal freight supply chains including rail, road and intermodal terminals. A strong supply chain network is required to support WA's economy and way of life and our projects include the development of aRegional Freight Strategy and planning for freight transport related support for renewable energy projects.

ThePorts Team’score purposeisto provide consolidated leadership and governance for WAports to facilitate the sustainable prosperity of the State’s people, regions and economy. The Ports team work closely with WA’s five port authorities to ensure strong governance, whole-of-state strategic development and coordinated delivery of the Government’s strategic vision. Our current priorities include developing new port capacity to enable WA’s energy transition and economic diversification, improving the whole-of-life management of the State’s port assets, and strengthening supply chains through sovereign shipping capability and international access.

TheTransport Reform Teamis responsible for influencing and delivering national and State transport policy and reform, particularly where there is a cross-Portfolio interest in the outcome. The Transport Reform team works closely with senior executives across the Portfolio to provide advice and recommendation on strategic policy matters. Priorities for the team include electric vehicle statistics and policy and future transport technologies such as drones and low and zero emission vehicles.

The Opportunity

Due to a recent promotion, there is 1 x fixed-term position until 30 June 2026, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency, available for filling in Aviation Team administering the Regional Airfare Zone Cap Scheme.

This and possible future roles will:

- Support the research and development of policy to inform long term investment, policy and governance.
- Collate and evaluate data to support performance monitoring to underpin strategic decisions presented at senior executive and ministerial levels.
- Develop, implement, and manage tenders and contracts in a complex economic and regulatory environment.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

Further appointment opportunities within the FPAR directorate are anticipated with new initiatives and policies regularly being introduced for development.
