Recruiting now to fill vacancies in Parkes, Albury, Wagga and a Sergeant Relieving role (which can be based at either Orange, Dubbo or Bathurst).
A talent pool may be created to fill future vacancies that arise during the next 12 to 18 months for the roles of Sergeant and Senior Sergeant in the West Southwest Command. Opportunities may be ongoing or temporary.
Your role
A Senior Sergeant may be an Officer-in-Charge (OIC) or a Second-in-Charge (2IC) at a centre and will be required to supervise a small team and effectively allocate resources to meet the Sheriff’s Office operational requirements.
A Sergeant is responsible for supervising a team of Sheriff’s Officers and supporting the 2IC in the day to day operations of the Centre.
A current NSW driver’s licence, with a provisional P2 licence as a minimum upon entry to service is required for this role. The role may involve travel including overnight stays.
Appointment to the role of Sergeant, Relieving requires a current NSW driver’s licence, with a provisional P2 licence as a minimum upon entry to service. The role involves regular travel within the hub and includes overnight and multiple night stays.
What you’ll do
- Supervise, mentor, and support team members in their duties, contributing to team development.
- Allocate resources to ensure efficient court operations and maintain the safety and security of court complexes and users.
- Perform law enforcement duties in accordance with relevant laws, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain records to meet financial and operational guidelines and ensure the Centre’s roster is up-to-date and visible.
- Provide high-quality services to court users, including judicial officers and jurors.
- Build and maintain relationships with court stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Regional Commander and other OICs to provide assistance at other locations during resource shortages or high-risk operations.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of initiatives to improve work practices.

- Adaptability: Quickly adjust to working in different jurisdictions, being flexible and open to changes in work environments and procedures.
- People Management: Good understanding and ability to comply with departmental policies and practices such as harassment prevention, EEO, EAPS, Code of Ethical Conduct, Work, Health and Safety, Ethical Work Practices, Disability Awareness, and the Aboriginal Cultural Capability Framework.
- Successful completion of the Sheriff’s Officer Recruit Training Program.
- Certificate III in Government to be completed within 12 months of commencement.
- Willingness to obtain and complete a Certificate IV of Leadership and Management or equivalent qualification upon commencement.
- Successful completion of tactical re‑certification, and other prescribed training programs mandated in line with Clause 9 of the Crown Employees (Sheriff’s Officer) Award 2024 as required.
- Current NSW driver’s licence, with a provisional P2 licence as a minimum upon entry to service.
- Current First Aid certificate.
- Meet the required health, physical and psychological requirements in accordance with agency standards.
