Business Development Manager — Protective Coatings

Protecting assets. Building opportunity. This is a unique opportunity to join a coatings business entering an exciting phase of growth and expansion. With proven technology, a strong technical reputation, and a growing customer base, the company delivers protective coating systems trusted to perform in some of the world’s harshest environments — from mining and oil & gas to marine and infrastructure.

We’re seeking an experienced Business Development professional who combines technical expertise with commercial acumen — someone who thrives in environments where initiative, autonomy, and results are valued and rewarded.

The role

As part of a small, dynamic, and results-driven team, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving growth across key sectors where long-term asset protection is critical. You’ll engage directly with clients, engineers, contractors, and asset owners, helping them solve corrosion and coating challenges with high-performance, sustainable solutions.

Key responsibilities

- Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to grow market share and client acquisition
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities across assigned territories and sectors
- Build and maintain strong relationships with asset owners, specifiers, and contractors
- Provide commercial and technical input into tenders, bids, and project specifications
- Deliver technical presentations and demonstrations to clients and partners
- Collaborate effectively with internal subject-matter experts and stakeholders
- Report on progress, pipeline, and customer insights to inform ongoing business strategy

About you

You’re a technically capable sales and business development professional who enjoys both hunting and nurturing opportunities. You understand industrial environments and can translate technical coating solutions into clear commercial outcomes.

You’re a confident communicator — able to engage credibly with people at all levels, from engineers on site to executive decision makers. You possess strong interpersonal awareness, emotional intelligence, and the ability to tailor your approach to various situations and personalities. You value collaboration, stay composed under pressure, and represent the business with professionalism and authenticity.

Qualifications

- Proven experience in business development within protective coatings, industrial paints, chemicals, or related industries
- Strong understanding of asset protection across mining, oil & gas, marine, and infrastructure sectors
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills — from site engineers to executive decision makers
- Advanced communication, influencing, and relationship management capability
- Emotional maturity and self-awareness, with the ability to build trust quickly and manage complex stakeholder dynamics
- A proactive, organised, and self-directed approach with strong follow-through
- A genuine passion for performance, sustainability, and helping clients protect and extend the life of their assets
