This is an exciting opportunity to support Kirklees Museums and Galleries in the development of its ambitious vision, by providing the management team with specialist business support to deliver the exciting and ambitious Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) between 2023 and 2027.
You will report to the Business and Audiences Manager, within the Learning and Engagement Team. See staff structure diagram in the Job Profile and the Focus Sheet for how this role complements the Learning and Engagement team.
This post will focus on supporting the Museum and Galleries service’s management team and the wider service to deliver and evidence NPO outcomes. You will support the team to develop sustainable administrative and financial systems and processes which will contribute to the long-term resilience of heritage in Kirklees.
We are looking for an organised, strong communicator with high level skills in communication, IT, finance and administration. You will have a love of the heritage and cultural sector and want to contribute to making a difference to people’s lives in the future through sharing the stories of past and present.
The purpose of Kirklees Museums and Galleries is to share amazing stories of past and present to inspire the future of Kirklees. The service helps people to understand their heritage through engaging with collections, stories and sites.
The service, in the heart of West Yorkshire, cares for Oakwell Hall and Country Park in Birstall, Bagshaw Museum in Batley and Tolson Museum in Huddersfield. We also house 250,000 objects, including Huddersfield Art Gallery’s significant art collections. The art gallery is currently closed as we develop the former Huddersfield Library and Art Gallery building to house Huddersfield’s new museum and gallery, due to open in 2029 as part of Kirklees Council’s major cultural regeneration programme, Our Cultural Heart. We deliver a lively programme of formal and informal learning, including a schools programme meeting the key elements of the National Curriculum, public events and exhibitions linked to the collections and stories of the area, as well asa volunteer and outreach programmes, which support skills development, well-being and enjoyment.
Kirklees is a desirable place to live, work and enjoy and is conveniently located, with excellent transport links across the country and particularly to Leeds and Manchester, together with easy access to glorious Pennine landscapes, vibrant cultural activity and the creative and historic towns and villages of the area.
