Are you ready to join the Note Issue Department and play a pivotal role in transforming risk management at the Reserve Bank of Australia?

We are seeking an experienced Manager, Risk & Compliance to join our Line 1 risk team, supporting the Note Issue Department to uplift risk culture and progressively mature our risk management practices.

The Note Issue department is responsible for producing and issuing Australian banknotes and provides key services to support wholesale banknote distribution.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Manager Risk and Compliance, this leadership role you will play a key role in helping build out and develop a team of dedicated first line risk professionals. This team supports our management of material risks and to ensure we are effectively adjusting to an ever-evolving cash landscape.

Your Responsibilities

- Lead a high performing team to provide risk subject matter expertise into the development and implementation of departmental strategy and business plan, considering material and emerging risks.
- Lead the implementation of departmental risk transformation initiatives, aligned with broader strategy and business plans
- Provide risk and compliance subject matter expertise to business teams, helping identify, assess, and manage risks and controls
- Partner with leaders and staff across varied work environments (e.g. laboratories, secure spaces, processing rooms, offices) to tailor risk support and uplift practices
- Promote a strong risk culture by coaching business stakeholders and encouraging ownership of risk
- Contribute to the design and delivery of risk and compliance frameworks, processes, and training materials
- Assist in the development and testing of contingency plans to enhance operational resilience
- Monitor and support adherence to the RBA's risk management strategy, appetite, and supporting frameworks, policies, and standards
- Collaborate with Line 2 and Internal Audit to support integrated assurance activities
- Prepare and contribute to risk reporting, including quarterly risk packs and papers for Governance Board and Committee meetings
- Participate in communities of practice and share insights to support consistency and uplift in risk management across the organisation

Your Background

- 10 years + experience in a Line 1 or Line 2 operational risk and compliance role, preferably within Financial Services.
- Experience supporting risk transformation initiatives and embedding uplifted frameworks and practices
- Proven ability to coach and support business stakeholders in understanding and applying risk and compliance concepts
- Demonstrated experience in supporting a business to strengthen risk culture and risk management practices.
- Demonstrated experience as a people leader, supporting the learning and development of a team of risk professionals.
- Experience in design, build and implementation of risk and compliance frameworks, coaching and training.
- Understanding of RBA-wide (or similar organisation) risk and compliance management frameworks, policies and standards.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to support resolution of risk and compliance issues
