The Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) is an independent statutory authority, whose primary function is to regulate members of the teaching profession.

About us

The VIT’s vision is to ensure that Victorian learners have the best teachers. All our work focusses on raising the quality of teaching, and providing for the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

Be part of a workforce who share VIT’s vision and are committed to contributing to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

Are you an allied health practitioner with experience or interest in investigations? Are you passionate about child safety? Do you have experience supporting vulnerable individuals with an impairment?

If you fit this profile, then you could join the dynamic Investigations Team within the Professional Conduct Branch at VIT with an exciting and challenging mandate to enable quality teaching, and provide for the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

About the role

The Senior Investigator (Impairments) role offers an outstanding career opportunity for a professional who is passionate about using their expertise and leadership to support VIT in its regulation of Victorian teachers. With expert knowledge on impairments, the role will ensure that VIT is able to effectively assess or investigate registered teachers or applicants for teaching registration who have a physical or mental health condition which may impact on their ability or fitness to teach.

Be part of a forward-thinking, risk-based regulator where ideas and opinions are valued.

This role will require you to:

- Lead investigations into professional conduct or capability concerns where a physical or mental health condition may be a contributing factor. Apply trauma informed, culturally appropriate and disability-aware approaches to all interactions.

- Provide leadership, coaching and support to Investigators and other staff members including providing guidance on strategic investigation planning, and quality assurance of written work.

- Contribute to policy refinement and training initiatives that improve organisational capability in managing impairment-related investigations in a trauma informed way.

This role will involve exposure to sensitive and objectionable material. Senior Investigators are responsible for investigating allegations of child abuse and neglect, and child sexual abuse.

Please refer to the position description for full details of the role requirements.

About you

As an experienced allied health practitioner you will have sound and practical knowledge of current methodologies for the assessment and treatment of physical and mental health conditions. You will have experience or an interest in investigations and a passion for child safety.

You will hold professional qualifications, and eligibility for registration with the relevant professional body, as either a psychologist, registered nurse, or social worker.

As the successful candidate, you will also have:

- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to provide support to individuals who may be experiencing distress.

- Demonstrated experience in providing subject matter expertise to staff from varied professional backgrounds.

- Training and/or experience in managing risks to welfare, including suicidal ideation and non-suicidal self-injury.

- Knowledge or experience in assessing or supporting individuals with a dual diagnosis of a mental health condition and substance dependency.

How to apply

Please submit your resume and cover letter (no more than two pages) addressing the key selection criteria outlined in the attached position description.

Candidates who do not hold professional qualifications and eligibility for registration as a psychologist, registered nurse, or social worker will not be considered.

To discuss this role further, please contact Lynton, Investigations Manager, Professional Conduct Branch on (03) 8601 6207 or by email at recruitment@vit.vic.edu.au
