Assistant Director - Industry Program Coordinator

Details: The Assistant Director – Industry Program Coordinator will collaborate with the Understanding Building and Construction Program (UBCP) School Program Manager to lead the delivery, management and ongoing development of the Understanding Building and Construction Program (UBCP – Try-a-Trade). This curriculum-based initiative aims to expand career awareness and access to pathways in the building and construction industry for female and gender-diverse students.
Developed in partnership with theNational Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC)and aligned with key ACT Government strategies—including theACT Women’s Plan,Future of Education Strategy,Skilled to Succeed Industry Action Plans, and theACT Wellbeing Framework—the program addresses the underrepresentation of women and gender diverse people in construction by providing targeted, inclusive learning opportunities.
The Industry Program Coordinator will play a key role in delivering the Understanding Building and Construction Program (UBCP – Try-a-Trade) across 10 ACT public schools. This position involves, building and maintaining strong partnerships with the construction industry to support program delivery. The role also involves coordinating industry-based events including excursions, events, work experience and hands-on learning in collaboration with stakeholders such as Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), industry suppliers, and work experience contractors.
The ideal candidate will be required to establish and maintain effective networks and work collaboratively with businesses and industry groups to build strong and vibrant links that focus on increasing the participation of female and gender diverse school students in the construction industry, through career education and vocational learning opportunities in ACT public schools. This will include representing the Directorate and the ACT Government at events, activities and forums, and liaising with various construction bodies and high schools.
The role requires highly developed written and verbal skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including unions, businesses and industry. The ideal candidate would have a proven ability to lead and manage projects within tight timeframes, build strong relationships, communicate effectively and influence outcomes. The role requires adaptability, teamwork, and resilience, with a commitment to improving outcomes for young people – particularly women and gender diverse students – through inclusive and future focused education initiatives.

- Possession of a current driver’s licence and access to a private vehicle.
- Proven ability to establish and manage projects within tight timeframes.
- Proven experience and /or comprehensive knowledge of the building and construction industry, including its key stakeholders, practices and workforce dynamics
- Strong understanding of the ACT Public Education system
- Experience working with young people
- Experience and understanding of the VET sector, Australian School-based Apprenticeships and local industry
- Nationally Recognised Certifications: Workplace Health and Safety Induction (White Card) or willingness to obtain;General Construction Induction Card (White Card) , Asbestos awareness card or a willingness to obtain - Asbestos Awareness Training and evidence of completion delivered by a Registered Training Organisation is required before commencement, for further information refer to:Asbestos Awareness Training - WorkSafe ACT and Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention (10830NAT).
