About the role
As a Turf Maintenance Team Leader, you will be key in maintaining and enhancing turf areas ensuring they remain lush, healthy, and resilient. Reporting to the Site Manager, this hands‑on role involves maintaining and enhancing turf areas, implementing sustainable practices, and delivering exceptional results.

Prepare and maintain high-performance natural turf cricket wickets to elite training and match standards
Undertake pitch preparation including scarifying, rolling, mowing, marking, watering, and covers management
Execute post‑match wicket recovery and rotation processes to ensure surface sustainability throughout the season
Maintain outfield areas to ensure consistent, safe, and visually presentable playing surfaces
Undertake regular mowing, irrigation, fertilisation, pest and disease management, and turf renovation activities
Carry out weed and pest control programs
Operate and maintain turf management machinery and specialised cricket turf equipment
Perform basic servicing and upkeep of mowers, rollers, line markers, and other Sportfield greenkeeping tools
Support planning and delivery of wicket rotation, outfield renovations, and seasonal maintenance schedules
Assist in preparing surfaces for elite team training, community use, and scheduled competitions or events
Health, Safety and Compliance
Follow all WHS protocols and promote a culture of safety within the team
Work collaboratively within a high-performance grounds team under the direction of the Head Curator or Turf Manager
Provide guidance and mentoring to apprentices or junior staff where required
Responsibilities
- Perform regular maintenance tasks such as mowing, aerating, and topdressing to uphold the quality and playability of turf surfaces.
- Monitor turf health and proactively address issues such as pests, diseases, and compaction through appropriate cultural and chemical practices.
- Implement sustainable turf management practices, including water conservation strategies, and pest management techniques.
- Operate and maintain specialised turf equipment and machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Collaborate with the landscaping team to coordinate maintenance schedules, prioritise tasks, and deliver exceptional results.
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their expectations, address concerns, and provide turf care recommendations.

About You
- Certificate III in Sports Turf Management
- Cricket Wicket experience (desirable)
- Previous experience in turf management, greenkeeping, or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of turfgrass species, growth habits, and maintenance requirements.
- Familiarity with turf care equipment and machinery, including mowers, aerators, and sprayers.
- Ongoing safety training programs and resources available.
