This role ensures accurate and transparent financial reporting, along with the effective management of Council’s funding and borrowings, to minimise costs and maintain strong, responsible financial performance that delivers lasting value to the community. Key responsibilities of the position include: - Assist with the preparation of financial statements, supporting documents, grants commission returns, and council reports, as well as coordinating audit responses and internal controls development. - Provide technical advice on accounting standards, legislative requirements, and their impact on financial reporting, including the preparation of specialist advice for management. - Manage the grants register, monthly BAS preparation, annual FBT return, TPAR submissions, and ABS survey responses. - Oversee cash flow management, bank reconciliations, and general ledger reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial records. - Administer the Corporate Purchase Card program, assist with rate modelling, revenue analysis, and chart of accounts maintenance, and support system upgrades and testing. The successful applicant will have: - Tertiary qualification in accounting or commerce or equivalent. - Studying towards (or willing to complete) a post-graduate professional qualification (e.g. CA/CPA). - Experience in preparing general purpose financial statements in line with Australian Accounting Standards. - Ability to research, interpret, and apply legislation, with strong technical understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and relevant regulations. - Experience in developing technical advice for senior management and solving complex problems through analysis and critical thinking. - Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy office environment, with effective time management and the flexibility to handle changing priorities. - Experience using Microsoft Office software (e.g. Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel) to support daily tasks and operations.
