Overview

The Head Teacher Social Sciences will provide leadership to oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of the Social Sciences curriculum, with a particular focus on Business Studies, high‑performance and gifted education across the Senior School. The successful candidate will lead a team of teachers, collaborate with the school executive team and drive strategic initiatives to improve student outcomes.

Responsibilities

- Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the Social Sciences curriculum, including VET options in the Senior School.

- Mentor and coach faculty to support professional growth, focusing on explicit teaching practices and high‑potential and gifted education priorities.

- Collaborate with teachers and school leaders to design and implement strategies that improve student outcomes, including academic performance and inclusion for all learners.

- Engage parents and learners in the education process, fostering a focus on individual growth.

Specific Selection Criteria

- Proven capability in leading the development and implementation of the Social Sciences secondary school curriculum, including VET options.

- Demonstrated ability to support professional development and growth of teachers through mentoring and coaching.

- Experience in collaborating to develop and implement strategies to improve student outcomes, including catering for all students, including High Potential Gifted Education students.

- Capacity to work closely with parents to engage all learners, including a focus on engagement and individual growth.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality and inclusive teaching and learning programs.

3. Educational leadership skills to build capacity and manage performance of individuals and teams.

4. Well‑developed communication and interpersonal skills with capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.

An unconditional full approval to teach is required. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you must commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Eligibility Requirements for Head Teacher Positions in NSW Government Schools
