About the Organisation

Nganampa Health Council is an Aboriginal-owned and controlled health organisation operating on the A n angu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in the far northwest of South Australia. Nganampa Health operates six major clinics and various health programs, including sexual health, environmental health, dental, women's health, chronic diseases, eye health, child health, and mental health.

The health service enjoys a strong national reputation for best-practice clinical services, leading-edge collaborative program research and development, and the use of outcome data for continuous evaluation. The organisation’s clinics are AGPAL-accredited, modern facilities staffed by a multidisciplinary team comprising A n angu Liaison Officers, On-Call Support Workers and Nurses, supported by Program Coordinators and experienced Medical Officers.

Nganampa Health Council is recognised as an exemplar of Aboriginal health services. Its successes include reducing sexually transmitted infection rates, increasing birth weights through antenatal programs, and consistently maintaining childhood immunisation rates above 90%.

The APY Lands are located in the far north-western region of South Australia, covering approximately 103,000 square kilometres with a population of approximately 3,000 A n angu people. The region is freehold land owned and managed by the A n angu people.

About You

We are looking for experienced RNs or RN-Midwives passionate about equal quality care for all. The ability to communicate and participate effectively within a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary health team and a demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health will be beneficial.

Our successful candidates will:

- Be highly computer literate, as health records are fully digital
- Display strong cultural awareness and respect
- Have advanced clinical skills and confidence in managing diverse patient presentations, including trauma, acute, and chronic conditions across all age groups

Midwives must have significant experience in acute general work within the past 5 years.

Candidates who are open to change, accepting of Aboriginal people, comfortable living in a remote environment and who are willing to learn the ways of the people will be well suited to this position.

The ability to work under Aboriginal management and control will be highly regarded, as will a demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health, the principles of Primary Health Care and relevant legislation.
