About the role
Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking multiple Paediatric Principal House Officers to join the team on a full-time, maximum term basis for 12 months.
The successful applicants will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive paediatric and neonatal inpatient services at Mater Hospital Springfield. This includes delivering family-centred developmental care to children and babies in the Paediatric Inpatient Unit (PIU) and the Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU), as well as supporting babies and children across other areas of the organisation, including the emergency department, birthing suites, postnatal wards, and outpatient settings.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of comprehensive family-centred care to children and babies at Mater Hospital Springfield, under general paediatrician supervision.
- Provide patient assessment and management in consultation with the treating paediatrician.
- Attend acute and elective admissions under the team during rostered working hours, review inpatients (PIU, postnatal ward and the NCCU), and participate in ward rounds with consultants.
- Communicate with patients and their families about the patient’s diagnosis and management in a culturally appropriate manner.
- Participate in research activities or quality improvement of the clinical unit to which you are attached.
- Provide supervision, teaching and support to junior medical staff and medical students and role-model appropriate behaviour and attitude.
About you
- Registration as a medical practitioner without conditions, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).
- Desirable qualifications:
- Undertaking or planning on undertaking Basic Paediatric training or General Paediatric advanced training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
- Undertaking training with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
Experience, skills, knowledge and qualities:
- Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary best practice methods within paediatrics and neonatology.
- Clinical skills and knowledge at a level appropriate for registrar/PHO.
- Ability to work harmoniously with others in a team and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Culturally appropriate verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to evaluate situations and to make objective judgments and decisions.
- Reliability, integrity, commitment, compassion, and leadership qualities.
- Experience in providing clinical education, research, quality improvement or clinical governance.
