Responsibilities
The Medical Workforce Unit is responsible for the recruitment, appointment, payroll and management of the junior medical staff (senior registrars to interns) within ISLHD.
The MWU is committed to delivering high quality, client focused and professional services that support the organisation in the delivery of its core function, which is the provision of high quality, safe and efficient health services that are responsive to the needs of patients, carers and the community.
The MWU provides expertise to medical staff and their managers regarding policy, recruitment, appointment, payroll, and employment records and associated services. Provide support of ensuring the establishment and maintenance of an adequate, skilled, competent, safe and effective Junior Medical Workforce, vital in effecting health outcomes, and vital in effecting the safety and functioning of the community.
Contribute to the strategic planning, development, implementation, management and improvement of District programs and services which operate to support the safety and quality of specialist care to communities therefore effecting health outcomes. Responsible for the provision of strategic and operational services and support to the development, implementation and maintenance of strategies, policies, systems, and processes relating to JMO management, including the establishment and support of high level advisory and governance mechanisms on behalf of all sites, services and managers.
The Manager MWU provides expert advice to the District Director Medical Workforce, Executive Director Medical Services (EDMS) and Directors of Clinical Services (DCS) on issues relating to junior medical officer workforce management.

Wollongong Hospital, located on Dharawal Country, is the Illawarra Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed-base count of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
