The Role
The WHS Specialist is responsible for ensuring our client meets and exceeds its statutory obligations under WHS legislation, industry best practice, and internal safety standards. This role will drive continuous improvement in safety systems, risk management, and safety culture across the organisation. The successful candidate is expected to be a subject matter expert, able to influence across functions and levels, to embed proactive safety behaviours and ensure safe, healthy, and sustainable workplaces for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
Some responsibilities will include:
- Lead and implement WHS strategy, ensuring compliance with legislation and organisational goals.
- Maintain and improve WHS systems, including policies, procedures, audits, and risk management processes.
- Manage incident reporting and investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Oversee contractor and supplier safety, ensuring compliance with organisational standards.
- Develop and deliver training programs to build safety awareness and accountability across the organisation.
- Monitor and report safety performance metrics, support wellbeing initiatives, and advise leadership on WHS matters.
Your Profile
- Cert IV or Diploma in WHS or OHS is desirable.
- Substantial experience in WHS roles in medium to large organisations, with broad exposure to hazard types, regulatory compliance, incident investigation etc.
- Demonstrated experience in risk management systems, audits, inspections, contractor management.
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, relevant codes of practice, standards.
- Experience managing or influencing change, embedding safety culture, training & development.
- Strong analytical skills: able to interrogate safety data, identify trends and drive improvement.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to present to senior management, influence various stakeholders.
- Resilience, ability to work under pressure, and to juggle strategic and operational tasks.
- Capacity to travel to sites as needed. Driving license desirable.
