Overview
Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) is a statutory authority established under the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia Act (2013) to foster and promote minerals research for the benefit of Western Australia.
We achieve impact through a range of activities in strategic focus areas of high value to the State. This includes facilitating discussions on the creation of the Critical Minerals Advanced Processing (CMAP) common user pilot facility.

Term: One (1) year fixed term contract with option for extensions and/or permanency
The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer and will lead and coordinate key strategic projects for MRIWA, focusing on gaining support for the CMAP facility and overseeing state funding of related pilot and demonstration facilities. The role involves working within a small, integrated team and collaborating with other government departments and agencies, the private sector, and research entities to develop, plan, and implement strategic projects with proven influence and negotiation skills.
Our ideal candidate will be able to work independently, navigate ambiguity, and deliver quality outcomes. Tertiary qualifications relevant to mineral processing are desirable.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate strategic projects to gain support for the CMAP facility and oversee state funding for related pilot and demonstration facilities.
- Plan, manage, and deliver large/complex projects with allocated resources to meet agreed outcomes.
- Influence and negotiate on complex, sensitive and/or contentious issues.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with partners and stakeholders to deliver value.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Experience as a strategic leader managing complex work and delivering projects.
- Ability to work independently and through ambiguity to achieve quality outcomes.
- Tertiary qualifications relevant to mineral processing are desirable.
