Pathology Queensland has an exciting opportunity for a Staff Specialist in Haematology Flow Cytometry, to join our Laboratory in Brisbane. In this role you will provide timely, efficient, high quality and cost effective Haematology Flow Cytometry diagnostic and consultation services, which meet the clinical needs of referrers statewide. Located in Brisbane, known for its relaxed subtropical lifestyle of South-East Queensland. Close to both beaches and the hinterlands you are able to make the most of year-round sunshine and the outdoors lifestyle. On top of a generous base salary, medical practitioners also receive additional allowances including motor vehicle, professional development and retention and attraction (50% of base salary).

About Pathology Queensland

Pathology Queensland (PQ) provides diagnostic pathology services to all Hospital and Health Services (HHS) across metro, regional and remote Queensland and plays a critical role in the government's response to public health threats, epidemics, and civil emergencies.

Purpose of the role

- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Queensland Public Service values (QPS) along with the following accountabilities:

- Provide timely, efficient, high quality and cost effective Haematology Flow Cytometry diagnostic and consultation services, which meet the clinical needs of referrers statewide.

- Assist in developing and implementing frameworks and strategies to continue the development of state-wide Haematology Flow Cytometry services based on universal best practice and reflected through uniform standards and practices.

- Participate in a comprehensive clinical liaison service as

- Collaborate with laboratory scientific, technical and operational colleagues to ensure service excellence.

- Supervise registrars and fellows in flow cytometry.

- Adhere to quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures.

- Actively participate in performance and development in your field of Haematology Flow Cytometry.

- Contribute to clinical excellence of the statewide service.

- Actively participate in discipline specific meetings, laboratory/department meetings and or multidisciplinary team meetings as determined in consultation with clients.

- Participate in clinical audits including the review and validation of test and quality assurance results.

- Consult with users of the service to provide expert clinical guidance and interpretation of results.

- Participate in Discipline specific activities as relevant to the Department/Unit and activities as relevant across the statewide service.

- Collaborate with stakeholders including haematology pathology collegues on the test repertoire offered by your group and provided by your clinical specialty using the resources available.

- The advertised roles will report to the Statewide Medical Director – Haematology.

- Follow recommendations/directives from the Medical Director(s) or Quality Manager.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

- Demonstrated contemporary knowledge, skills and ability in flow cytometry as it pertains to haematology, and high level of professionalism required in the position, especially objectivity.

- Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills necessary for all aspects of the position.

- Demonstrated skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to conduct relevant training, teaching, research, investigation, analysis and management

- Knowledge of the ISO 15189 and NATA Medical Testing Requirements demonstrating continued accreditation in your clinical specialty for all laboratories across a diverse network

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

- Mandatory requirements are a medical qualification and tertiary qualification in Haematology (FRCPA or equivalent), and be registerable with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Specialist Pathologist.

- The incumbent must be a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia or equivalent.

- Experience in Flow Cytometry as applied to Haematology is required.

- Concurrent appointment in Haematology in Pathology Queensland is desirable.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases requirement

- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis B and TB.
