Practice Information

This organisation was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region. The Disability Services unit provides a range of services to NDIS participants in SEQ. These services encompass Coordination of the NDIS plan, Allied therapies and advocacy support. The Disability Services unit fosters a holistic approach to participants of the IUIH network to improve access for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to a comprehensive and effective range of extended Health services and clinical programs.

About the Role

The organisation is providing dedicated resources and programs designed to support families and children with developmental programs and dedicated speech pathology interventions as needed. The primary position objectives are to provide culturally appropriate adult and/or paediatric Speech Pathology services to participants of the NDIS, as directed to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team. You will be given the opportunity to:

- Deliver culturally responsive speech therapy to NDIS participants.

- Collaborate with schools & families to empower Indigenous communities

- Develop both Adult and Paediatric skills by maintaining a diverse caseload across the lifespan. This includes the opportunity to specialise in adult, paediatric or mixed caseloads.

- Work collaboratively within an interprofessional team of health care professionals including: Occupational Therapists, Physios, EPs, Paed Nurses, GPs, AHWs, Paediatricians, and more. As a collaborative team we work together to provide client-centred care.

- Work in a variety of settings such as primary health care clinics, kindergartens, and other community settings.

- Contribute to continuing innovative health service development.

- Commit to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health.

Position Requirements

Mandatory:

- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)

- Valid Disability Worker Screening Check (QLD Yellow Card) – Required prior to commencement

- Valid Working with Children Check (QLD Blue Card) – Required prior to commencement

- Current Criminal History Check - Willingness to obtain upon commencement

- Current First Aid & CPR Certificates – Willingness to obtain upon commencement

- Speech Pathology Australia membership

- Relevant degree in Speech Pathology

Desirable, but not mandatory:

- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities

- Demonstrated experience working with clients with disabilities and/or participants under the NDIS.

Salary Information

$81,503 - $106,855 + Super + Vehicle Allowance (Up to $300 per fortnight)
