Overview of the Organisation

Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) is a leading independent medical research institute whose vision is to prevent and cure disease and disability of the brain and nervous system through leadership, excellence and innovation in neuroscience research. NeuRA has world-class research facilities and is based at Randwick in Sydney.

Overview of the Role

The Research Assistant will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day management of trials. This includes serving as the primary contact for participants, coordinating participant screening for eligibility, and liaising closely with trial clinicians, researchers, and external contractors. The role also involves managing the online database system (REDCap), ensuring protocol and safety compliance, and maintaining high standards of data quality in line with Good Clinical Practice.

You will assist trial managers with recruitment strategies, help ensure deadlines are met and contribute to the smooth running of trial operations. This is a hands-on role that requires initiative, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work flexibly within a collaborative research team.

Location: Randwick, Sydney NSW

Job Type: Contract, Twelve 12 months, with a possibility of extension

Salary: $88,000 – $88,900 per year

Successful Candidates:

- Degree in a relevant discipline desirable (health background preferred)
- Experience as a research assistant desirable, but not essential
- Proficiency in word processing and database management; REDCap experience desirable but not essential
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively and flexibly within a team environment

Research Assistant (Level A)

Overview of the Role

A Research Assistant is required to coordinate participant engagement and onsite data collection for the ReMIND Brain Health Study, involving adults aged 50+ years. The study focuses on understanding cognitive resilience in ageing. The role involves participant recruitment, screening and enrolment, obtaining informed consent, scheduling assessment appointments, conducting brief cognitive assessments, research administration, as well as overseeing participant wellbeing during onsite appointments for blood collection, vision assessment, and MRI brain imaging. The role would work as part of a team.

Job Type: Part-time, 4 days per week until 30 June 2026

Salary: $88,000 – $88,900 per year

Key Responsibilities of the Role

- Provision of research assistance for the ReMIND Brain Health study, including research administration.
- Assisting with recruitment and onboarding of research participants, including screening and administration of questionnaires and cognitive assessments.
- Adhere strictly to approved research protocols in assessments and data collection
- Complete day-to-day research activities within the framework of agreed project timelines and responsibilities.
- Accompany participants to Prince of Wales Hospital for neuroimaging, blood collection at SEALS pathology for blood collection and vision assessments.
- Participate in project meetings as required
- Liaise with organisations, data custodians, stakeholders and collaborators and actively participate in meetings and discussions as required.

Successful Candidates

- Completed Honours degree qualification in Psychology (or equivalent 4 year psychology training)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and capacity to communicate with a range of people including participants as well as study collaborators and stakeholders
- Excellent organisational skills, time management and outstanding attention to detail
- Capacity to work well in a team and independently as needed
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of research integrity and ethics, data privacy and consent processes
- Demonstrable interest in ageing research
- Experience or training in the assessment of research participants including experience in administering questionnaires and cognitive assessment.
- Familiarity with clinical settings including MRI and pathology services (desirable).
- Experience working with older adults and in a health setting (desirable).
- Capacity to learn different computer systems and programs needed for data collection.
- Experience or training in the assessment of research participants including experience in administering questionnaires and cognitive assessment. Experience in MRI use (desirable).
- Experience working with older adults and in a health setting (desirable).
