Join a respected, independent organisation that helps improve public services in Tasmania. As a Senior Analyst, you’ll work on performance audits that explore how well government programs are working — no accounting background required. If you’re experienced in research, policy, or evaluation and want to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.

Not an accountant? Not a problem. We’re looking for curious, thoughtful people who want to make a real difference in how public services work in Tasmania.

Join a respected, independent organisation that helps improve government performance and build public trust. We do this by investigating how well public sector programs and services are working, and report our findings and recommendations to Parliament and the community. This has a significant impact in shaping public administration.

The type of audit we do is called a performance audit.

- Are public services delivering what they promised?

- Are public dollars being used efficiently?

- What could be done more economically?

If this sounds like the job for you, we’d love to hear from you, especially if you have experience:

- working in small teams undertaking complex work on research or evaluation projects in the public sector

- analysing financial or other data, including qualitative analysis

- participating in state government reviews or inquiries

- writing public-facing reports on complex matters.

You can see what we’re working on in the Auditor‑General’s Annual Plan 2025–26 on our website.

We may use this recruitment process to fill current and future vacancies on a permanent and fixed‑term basis.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight- flexible options available.

Duties

- Undertakes, as a member of a small team, allocated components of audits within cost, time and quality parameters.

- Contributes to the planning of audits and identification of audit criteria.

- Utilises information technology and computer systems to complete audit work, analyse data and prepare reports.

- Completes elements of electronic audit files as directed by the audit team leader

- Maintains working papers (in accordance with Office policy and relevant standards) to record evidence of audit work.

- Assists in the identification and research of potential audit issues and contributes in developing options and recommendations.

- Applies well‑developed knowledge of public sector operations and responsibilities and audit evaluation and research methodologies to produce effective performance audits.

- Maintains regular and professional relationships with personnel in organisations under review.

- Drafts elements of reports or supports senior staff in drafting reports on the outcomes of audits for discussion with clients and for internal review prior to tabling in Parliament. Also, co-ordinates the process of tabling reports including preparing briefings and presentations.

- Contributes to team cohesiveness and maintains professional and collaborative relationships within the Office.

Performance is measured against Key Performance Indicators that are developed and agreed to for each role in the Office and documented in annual Performance Plans.
