Medical Laboratory Assistant - Specialist Haemostasis

Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals wishing to join the team within the Cambridge Haemophilia and Thrombophilia Centre Specialist Haemostasis Unit.

The unit provides a comprehensive repertoire of tests to the hospital trust, the Cambridge Comprehensive Care Haemophilia Centre and acts as a referral centre for Specialist Haemostasis testing for many other hospitals and organisations.

This is an exciting time to be joining the Haemostasis unit. The unit is located within a dedicated Haemophilia centre, working closely with the medical and nursing staff.

The successful candidate will be a strong team player, they will also possess excellent communication skills and must be able to take responsibility for day-to-day planning and prioritising of workload.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Performs a range of routine healthcare science activities under supervision, e.g. sample preparation and storage
- Maintains clinical records in relation to activities carried out.
- To work flexibly in reflection of service needs
- The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood
- Maintain and promote professional image of CUHNHSFT

Due to Home Office immigration rules, a full time permanent vacancy cannot be filled by individuals on a Student visa. Therefore, please be advised that if you are a Student visa holder, we will not be able to offer you a full time permanent contract unless you have:

- or you will have successfully completed your course and have applied for a Graduate visa before the anticipated start date of your employment

Person Specification

Qualifications

- Numerate and Literate
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- GCSE in Science (A-C) or equivalent

Experience

- Planning and organising straightforward tasks
- Working within agreed guidelines to set timescales
- Experience of using IT packages
- Practical experience of working in a Biomedical Science laboratory
- Knowledge of Pathology IT systems
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems
- Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS

Knowledge

- Understanding of the requirements of working in a biomedical laboratory
- Understanding of confidentiality
- Understanding of customer service
- Basic knowledge of the Trust

Skills
