Principal Consultant - Curriculum and Assessment - Modern History

Branch: K-12 CASP Team 1

Division: Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy

Salary: Level 7, $139,860 - $149,485 per annum (pro-rata) (PSCA 2024)

This is a fixed term, full-time position commencing January 2026 up until the end of January 2028.

The School Curriculum and Standards Division provides administrative and secretariat services for and implements the decisions of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Authority provides quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all Western Australian students to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.

Responsibilities

- Located in the Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate, the Principal Consultant, Secondary – Curriculum and Assessment provides leadership in the development and review of curriculum, assessment, and standards support materials for Years 7–12. The role also oversees processes and deliverables associated with adopting and/or adapting the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 for Humanities and Social Sciences (Years 7–10), with a particular focus on Modern History in Years 11–12.
- Provide expert guidance on curriculum and assessment to support the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline (Outline) and WACE.
- Oversee the implementation of curriculum standards, coordinate moderation activities to ensure statewide consistency, and contribute to the development of high-quality ATAR course examinations and marking keys.
- Facilitate information sessions and provide strategic advice at state and national levels.
- Support the Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate in implementing moderation activities to ensure statewide comparability of standards and the development of ATAR course examinations.

Active Policy and Program Work

- Direct and manage development, implementation and review of policies and programs of the Authority associated with Kindergarten to Year 12 curriculum, assessment and moderation; research best practice in curriculum, standards and moderation; plan and develop policies, programs, systems and innovations; manage projects across the Authority; ensure the Authority remains responsive to the needs of the SCASA Board and the Minister and lead coordination of services and support.

Eligibility and Selection

- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

3. Demonstrated substantial project and program management skills, including the ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery and objectives in a timely manner.
4. Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking consultation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration and negotiation.
