The Organisation
Motivated by the parable of the Good Samaritan, Opportunity seeks to alleviate poverty in developing countries – one family and one community at a time. By providing small loans to families in need, Opportunity helps them grow their own businesses and generate sustainable incomes so they can lift themselves out of poverty with dignity.
To break the cycle of poverty for good, Opportunity also increases families’ access to healthcare and quality education, while strengthening communities to reduce the risk of gender-based violence – creating a new future for generations to come.
Impact
By joining Opportunity International Australia, you become an integral part of a transformative mission that goes beyond fighting poverty — Opportunity aims to end it. Through innovative programs and microfinance initiatives, Opportunity creates sustainable pathways for economic growth, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion.
The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic Major Gifts Relationship Manager to join our Philanthropy team. In this donor-facing role, you will manage and grow a portfolio of major supporters across NSW, VIC, ACT, and TAS, including individuals, small business owners, giving circles, and philanthropic networks.
Your goal will be to engage, retain, and grow long-term donor relationships that fund life-changing programs with a key focus on our microfinance and health programs.
You will also play a key role in identifying new high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), building lasting partnerships, and communicating our mission in compelling ways that inspire generosity and deepen impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Qualify, manage and grow a portfolio of major donors giving $10,000+ annually using strategic engagement to deepen relationships and increase giving over time.
- Develop tailored goals and communication plans for each donor, aligned with their interests and giving capacity.
- Proactively engage new philanthropic prospects and referral networks to grow the donor base.
- Collaborate with program and fundraising teams to craft impactful donor pitches and project proposals.
- Host and speak at events, donor gatherings, presentations and insight trips.
- Develop and steward relationships with donors to identify and cultivate planned giving opportunities, including gifts in Wills.
- Represent Opportunity at relevant networking forums, expos and conferences.
- Ensure all donor communications reflect Opportunity’s values and impact authentically and respectfully.
What You Bring
You are a relationship builder at heart — driven by purpose, inspired by people, and committed to making an impact.
- A deep alignment with Opportunity’s mission and Christian motivation.
- Experience in fundraising, sales or customer engagement, with a strong focus on KPIs and outcomes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently engage HNWIs and represent an organisation publicly.
- Proactive and self-directed, with strong organisational and time management skills.
- A team player with a high level of emotional intelligence and integrity.
- Experience in or exposure to the international aid and development sector.
To Apply
If this opportunity resonates with your experience and values, and you/'re inspired by Opportunity’s mission, we’d love to hear from you. Please send your resume along with a one-page cover letter outlining your interest in the role and why you want to join Opportunity to Kirsten Jensen at kjensen@opportunity.org.au.
Please note: Applications submitted without a cover letter will not be considered.
For specific questions about the role or to request the position description and salary package information you can email: kjensen@opportunity.org.au
