The Opportunity
- Join Victoria's Youth Justice Precinct at Parkville.
- Lead and support a team responsible for assessing, classifying and determining placements for young people in custody.
- Contribute to improving the outcomes of young people's futures.
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (Youth Justice) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focussing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime.
Youth Justice Custodial Services aim to engage young people in change by addressing their offending behaviour and equipping them with the skills required for positive community participation, within a safe and secure environment. The Classification and Placement Unit (CPU) is responsible for guiding the journey of every young person through their period of remand or sentence in Youth Justice custody.
- Ongoing, full‑time position based in Parkville.
- VPS5 role: $113,022 - $136,747 per year plus super.
- Leadership of staff undertaking risk and needs assessments of young people in custody and the development of remand care plans that respond to identified risks and needs.
- Determine appropriate placement of all allocated young people based on risk and needs assessment, available intelligence and other sources of available information.
- Engage and influence relevant stakeholders to ensure appropriate systems are in place to enhance bail diversion opportunities for remandees.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Knowledge of Youth Justice Custodial Services policies, organisation, procedures and relevant legislation and regulations.
- Knowledge of the Children Youth and Families Act 2005
- Knowledge of the Youth Justice Act 2024
- A full driver’s licence is required due to the possibility of working at other work locations.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
