Council of the City of Sydney, Australia ClearCompany Full time

Overview

- Step into a 2IC role with a clear pathway to Partnership

- Lead a $1M+ client portfolio across private and corporate groups

- Join a collaborative, social team that values success and celebrating wins

Our client

Our client is a highly respected, mid-sized accounting and advisory firm with a track record of delivering deep advisory and compliance services across business advisory, corporate finance and tax. They offer the breadth of expertise you/'d expect from a large firm, while maintaining a tailored, client‑centred approach. Their clients range from start‑ups and family groups to large enterprises and listed entities, giving you exposure to every facet of the business landscape.

The role

Reporting directly to the Partner, the Client Director acts as their 2IC, leading a team and taking ownership of client relationships and workflow. You/'ll be the primary point of contact for your clients, signing off on the work your team produces and ensuring it meets the firm/'s quality and compliance standards. This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and working closely with clients and staff alike.

What you/'ll be doing

- Lead and deliver - manage a portfolio of business advisory clients (approx. $1M+ in fees), overseeing the preparation of financial statements, tax returns, BAS/FBT, management accounts and forecasts while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and internal standards.

- Be the trusted advisor - provide commercially focused business, tax and structuring advice; help clients navigate complex transactions, succession issues and growth challenges.

- Drive quality and efficiency - manage workflow, budgets and resource allocation to meet deadlines without compromising accuracy; continually improve systems and processes.

- Develop people - coach and mentor a team of senior accountants and assistant managers, delegating effectively, delivering feedback and fostering an empowered, high‑performing culture.

- Grow the practice - identify opportunities to cross‑sell services, build relationships with existing and new clients, and contribute to business development initiatives and branding.

- Act as a role model - uphold the firm/'s values of integrity, excellence, collaboration and respect; play an active role in maintaining the firm/'s culture and standards.

What you bring

- CA/CPA qualification

- At least 10 years/' broad Australian business services experience, including 3+ years in a manager‑level role within a top 100 accounting firm.

- Deep technical knowledge across accounting, tax, management accounting and financial reporting, with strong commercial acumen and budgeting skills.

- Proven leadership capability, including staff management, mentoring and succession planning.

- Excellent communication and negotiation skills; comfortable dealing with high‑net‑worth individuals, SMEs and corporate clients.

- A growth mindset with the confidence to challenge clients and colleagues when necessary.

Why join them?

- Clients and work - you/'ll work with a broad mix of industries and complex group structures, ensuring your days are varied and stimulating.

- Team culture - join a supportive, collaborative team that values knowledge sharing and celebrates success. Expect social events, town‑hall gatherings, birthday celebrations and team lunches.

- Growth and development - the firm is large enough to offer structured training, mentoring and clear career paths, yet small enough to give you personalised attention and a genuine say in how things are done. There/'s a clear pathway toward partnership for those who excel.

- Study support and training - funded study support, paid study leave and monthly expert‑led training covering technical, soft‑skill and wellbeing topics.

- Competitive rewards - market‑competitive salary packages, flexible work arrangements including two days WFH, parental leave and half‑yearly development reviews.

Ready to make a bigger impact?

If you/'re a commercially minded leader who wants to step into a client‑facing director role and help shape a growing firm, we/'d love to hear from you. Apply now or contact Steve Merritt for a confidential discussion on 0404 426 749.
