Mining Manager

Perseus Mining Limited is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Mining Manager to lead open cut operations at the Yaoure site in Africa.

Reporting to the General Manager, this role will establish safe and efficient mining operations from the ground up. The Mining Manager will ensure a consistently high standard of service delivery that contributes directly to the achievement of the mine’s production targets in a safe, cost effective, and timely manner.

This is a hands on leadership role, managing a diverse workforce and delivering across performance, safety, and cost.

Responsibilities

- Promote and comply with PMY Occupational Health & Safety, Environment and Community Relations Policies
- Define the processes for the communication of the requirements for effective OH&S management and compliance
- Ensure that the requirements for effective OH&S management and compliance are clearly communicated and understood by direct reports and all personnel operating in the Mine (employees, contractors and other personnel)
- Ensure through appropriate direction and supervision that the OH&S standards are adhered to
- Ensure through own personal behaviour absolute compliance with OH&S requirements, setting an example to all employees and contractors regarding their expected standards of compliance with OH&S requirements
- Ensure compliance with PMY Safety Management Plan
- Ensure incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner
- Become actively involved in PMY aims and objectives of engaging with the local community and strive to leave a positive impact on the longer-term outcomes for local people. Promote the integration between this engagement and the success of the business
- Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders in mining activities consistent with the Company Environment and Community Relations Policies
- Develop objectives for sharing common infrastructure and support services across the site and cascade this throughout function.
- Provide direction with appropriate discretion levels set as to the method and processes to be used throughout the contractor operation
- Follow up and monitor actual performance against planned performance of direct reports and the contractor team

About You

We’re looking for a performance driven mining leader with strong operational and contractor management experience, capable of building systems and teams from the ground up in a dynamic environment.

To succeed in this role, our ideal candidate will have:

- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum 10 years’ experience at Managerial level, similar position or above in major, metalliferous or precious metal open pit mining operations
- At least 15 years of experience in open pit production in a metalliferous or precious metal mining operation with leadership of a multi-disciplinary mining team
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness
- High level of understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in Côte d’Ivoire
- Significant experience in managing mining contractors
- Computer literate including skill on GEOVIA software and Microsoft Office Package
- Knowledge of geological nature of gold deposits and knowledge of the geotechnical and hydrogeological factors effecting open pit mines
- Experience in the development and implementation of management systems
- Proven ability to deliver results
- Experience in managing costs and budgeting
- Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas

It would be beneficial if you have

- Previous experience working on projects with Africa
- French language

Where You’ll Be Working

Located within West Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Yaouré Gold Mine is Perseus’s third operation, commencing production in December 2020. Achieving Commercial Production in March 2021, Yaouré’s operational life was extended to at least 2035 in September 2023. The mine is anticipated to yield approximately 210,000 ounces of gold annually over the next five years, with an average AISC of approximately US$1,104
