Position Information

Havenlee School is on the traditional land the Yuin Nation. It is a SSP in North Nowra and part of the Northern Shoalhaven Community of Schools. The school consists of 10 classes, pre-school to year 12 (8 IO/IS & 2 MC). The students present with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, often accompanied by secondary physical, behavioural and other disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder. Aboriginal students make up approximately 43% of Havenlee School enrolments.

Specific Selection Criteria

- Possession of approval to teach special education and/or demonstrated experience teaching students from pre-school to Year 12 with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and/or complex medical and/or behavioural needs.

- Proven ability to effectively manage programming and assessment requirements across multi-stage classes to promote student growth and wellbeing, including for Aboriginal students and those with challenging behaviours and/or complex medical needs.

- Demonstrated expertise in classroom management strategies that effectively address the diverse learning and behavioural needs of students.

- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate proactively and professionally with colleagues, parents, carers, School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs), support agencies, and the wider community.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
